These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Verva mobile application and website (together, the "Service"), operated by Verva Digital Ltd ("Verva", "we", "us", or "our"), a company registered in England and Wales.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Verva is a language learning application that provides articles, AI-powered explanations, and practice exercises to help you learn English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. The Service includes:
- Reading and listening to articles in your target language
- AI-generated explanations, translations, and grammar guidance
- Practice exercises with feedback
- Saving and reviewing vocabulary and expressions
2. Accounts
To use the Service, you must create an account using Apple Sign-In, Google Sign-In, or email and password. You are responsible for:
- Keeping your sign-in credentials secure
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Providing accurate account information
You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). See our Privacy Policy for details on what happens to your data.
3. Age Requirements
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Free and paid plans
Verva offers both free and paid subscription plans. Paid plans unlock additional features as described in the app.
Billing
- Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store. All payments are processed by Apple — Verva does not directly handle your payment card details.
- Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually) unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- Prices are displayed in your local currency in the App Store and may vary by region.
Cancellation
- You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your device).
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until then.
- We do not offer partial refunds for unused subscription time.
Refunds
Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policy. To request a refund, contact Apple directly through reportaproblem.apple.com.
5. AI-Generated Content
Verva uses artificial intelligence to generate explanations, examples, translations, and exercises. You acknowledge that:
- AI content may contain errors. While we strive for accuracy, AI-generated responses may occasionally be incorrect, incomplete, or misleading. You should not rely on them as the sole source of language instruction.
- AI content is not professional advice.
- Responses may vary. The same question may produce different answers at different times. This is a characteristic of AI systems.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems
- Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Share your account credentials with others
- Use the chat feature to generate content unrelated to language learning
- Circumvent usage limits or subscription restrictions
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
7. Intellectual Property
Our content
The Service, including its design, articles, audio, images, code, and branding, is owned by Verva Digital Ltd and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.
Your content
Messages you send in the chat, saved words, and exercise answers remain yours. By using the Service, you grant us a limited licence to process this content as necessary to provide the Service (e.g., generating AI responses to your messages, storing your saved words). We do not claim ownership of your content.
8. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Use the Service in a way that harms other users or the Service itself
- Engage in fraudulent activity
If we terminate your account, we will notify you by email where possible. You may still request deletion of your personal data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
You may terminate your account at any time by deleting it from within the app.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
- AI-generated content will be accurate or complete
- The Service will meet your specific learning goals
- Defects in the Service will be corrected
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Verva Digital Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for any claims arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Changes to the Service
We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the Service at any time. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you of significant changes. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the Terms were last revised.
Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, please stop using the Service.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live.
If you are a consumer in the EU, you may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform.
